AmerisourceBergen Introduces InterChange ® A Complete Physician Order Management System
VALLEY FORGE, Pa. November 12, 2005 -- AmerisourceBergen Corporation (NYSE: ABC) has introduced
InterChange ®, an easy-to-use, secure and cost-effective physician order management tool for health system pharmacies.
InterChange provides an innovative solution to a long-standing challenge for health systems pharmacists: how to eliminate the clutter, frustration and safety risks inherent in paper-based medication orders. InterChange is a completely paperless system that converts paper-based medication orders into an electronic format that is easily accessed by pharmacists.
With InterChange, a hospital pharmacy uses existing, highly reliable fax technology and specialized software to receive, prioritize, sort, review, annotate, and store written patient medication orders electronically. This eliminates dependence on slow or problematic delivery methods such as pneumatic tubes, courier services or hard copy fax printouts.
The system streamlines the processing of patient medication orders through configurable routing , enabling the pharmacist to direct and prioritize medication orders and maximize pharmacy staff time. The pharmacist can quickly communicate a therapeutic substitution to the nurse or prescriber. Similarly, order clarifications are handled using the InterChange annotation and fax-back features. Steps are reduced, valuable time is saved and disruptions are decreased. Communication among physicians, nurses and pharmacy staff is greatly improved, and faster medication delivery improves patient and nursing staff satisfaction.
In addition to these benefits, the InterChange ® system:
-
Reduces the risk of medication errors by transmitting medication orders electronically. The system also provides the pharmacy with the ability to zoom and pan hard-to-read orders to ensure accurate interpretation of hand writing and decimal points.
-
Brings immediate efficiencies and cost savings to the order process and dispensing routine. Eliminates time spent filing and retrieving paper-based orders.
-
Eliminates expensive multi-part forms, manual tracking systems and costly storage facilities as well as the need to shred paper documents by maintaining patient orders in an electronic database.
-
Requires no additional infrastructure in nursing stations and clinics and minimal or no technical support.
-
Allows pharmacists in multiple locations to access and process orders for patients serviced by another pharmacy location.
-
Ensures patient privacy and security as patient orders can be accessed only by authorized users.
The InterChange pharmacy fax station can be configured for any type of acute care facility and patient order volume. Workstations or storage capacity can be added as needed. For more information, contact 888.537.3102.
